What exactly does the MAN PhD student programme look like? What are the benefits of a PhD in industry? These and other questions are what occupy our PhD students and their managers every day. However, although we can explain a lot, we’d rather let our PhD students speak for themselves.
The duration of the MAN PhD student programme depends on the relevant research project. Generally, they last three years.
Our PhD students work on their research projects during their postings. Alongside their actual research, they also have the chance to present their own research work to the board at events such as the doctoral colloquiums that take place all year round, providing an opportunity for expert discussion. Networking events such as the regular social evenings are also part of the PhD student programme, creating group-wide networks.
Each PhD student has a specialist supervisor (mentor) within their specialist area. A current PhD student who already has previous experience of the programme is also appointed as a buddy.

Alongside this, the corresponding positions are also always advertised at the relevant partner university.
You can also apply directly to MAN and/or the universities. Interviews and informal meetings are then held within the company with the relevant specialist department, faculty and HR.

During their doctoral work, PhD students are employed by their universities. That means that they are paid as public sector employees according to the pay grade applicable for their federal state.
Essentially, doctoral or project work is possible in any of our departments. It depends on the future topics in the respective areas that are to be developed through a PhD.
